Building My Sound: The Art of Storytelling in the Modern Afrobeats Era

In every beat, there’s a story.
Every melody carries a piece of where I’ve been, who I am, and where I’m heading.
For me, music isn’t just sound—it’s identity, emotion, and truth in rhythm form.

Finding My Voice

I started my musical journey in Benin City, a place where rhythm lives in everyday life—from market chants to drumbeats that echo through festivals. Growing up, I was surrounded by sounds that spoke louder than words. That environment shaped how I see music—not just as entertainment, but as a language of connection.

When I first began recording, I didn’t just want to create songs; I wanted to build experiences. I wanted people to feel my culture, my story, and my message even if they didn’t understand the words. That’s how the Eddy Ratty sound was born—a mix of Afrobeats, Afro-fusion, and emotion-driven storytelling.

The Craft Behind the Vibe

Afrobeats today has evolved beyond boundaries. It’s global, but what makes it powerful is still its authenticity. In my creative process, I focus on translating emotion into rhythm—every line, every hook must come from something real.
Tracks like Sweetie Tomatoes, My Kind of Vibe, and Badman Thing reflect different sides of my journey. Some talk about love and gratitude; others capture hustle and growth. But all of them carry truth.

Working with professionals like Freeme Digital for distribution and Isio Media Hub for engineering helped me translate that raw energy into something that can travel across borders without losing its soul. The goal has always been to balance professionalism with authenticity—music that can move crowds and still stay personal.

Being Independent in a Big Industry

Independence isn’t easy. It means wearing multiple hats—artist, creative director, marketer, strategist—but it also means freedom. I’ve learned to trust my instincts, to understand what resonates with people, and to build a career that’s sustainable and true to who I am.

The digital age has given artists like me tools to reach fans around the world. From Lagos to London, Berlin to Toronto, every stream reminds me that my music can connect with someone, somewhere, even when I’ve never met them. That connection keeps me going.

The Move to the UK: A New Chapter

Relocating to the UK has opened new creative possibilities. The energy here is different—diverse, experimental, and open to cultural fusion. My goal now is to expand my sound while staying rooted in my African heritage. I want to collaborate with UK producers, perform across cities, and build a bridge between the African rhythm and the Western stage.

Afrobeats isn’t just a genre—it’s a movement. It’s the heartbeat of a new generation that wants to dance, feel, and believe. And I’m proud to be one of the voices shaping its next chapter.

Looking Ahead

The next chapter of my career is focused on growth—more collaborations, live performances, and sound evolution. But at the core, I’m still that boy from Benin City with big dreams and bigger melodies. My mission is simple: to make music that feels human, honest, and timeless.

Music gave me a voice. Now, I’m using it to tell stories that go beyond borders.
Because in the end, it’s not just about being heard—it’s about being felt.
