My Journey So Far: From Benin City to the World

Discover the real story behind Afrobeat artist Eddy Ratty — from humble beginnings in Benin City to making waves across the world with his sound and soul.

Eddy Ratty performing live in Lagos

Every story has a rhythm — and mine started in the heart of Benin City, Nigeria, where music wasn’t just a sound, it was a way of life. Growing up, the streets, the people, and the energy of home shaped me in ways I didn’t even realize. From the small speakers at local bars to the sound systems blasting at night, Afrobeat was always alive around me — but I wanted to make it my own.

Early Struggles & Finding My Voice

I didn’t come from much. There were times when I doubted myself, when people said I’d never make it, when shows were empty or opportunities slipped through my fingers. But I kept going. Music became more than passion — it became therapy. When I couldn’t explain what I was feeling, I’d write it. When I felt invisible, I’d sing louder. Every rejection, every struggle, every sleepless night became part of the sound you hear today.

Tuface and the Power of Mentorship

One of the biggest blessings in my life was crossing paths with Tuface Idibia (2Baba) — someone whose words and example shaped how I see music. He didn’t just teach me about melodies or performance. He taught me about purpose — using sound to connect, to inspire, to heal. Those lessons still guide every lyric I write and every beat I ride.

My Kind of Vibe

When I say “My Kind of Vibe,” it’s not just a song — it’s my truth. It’s Afrobeat fused with my soul, my story, my hustle, and my belief that music can unite people. From the smallest studio sessions to performing on big stages, I carry Benin City in my heart everywhere I go.

The UK Chapter

Coming to the UK was more than just relocation — it was rebirth. A chance to expand, collaborate, and share my sound with new hearts. It wasn’t easy. Different culture, different pace, and new challenges. But one thing stayed the same — the dream: to make music that transcends borders and brings people together.

The Journey Continues

If you’re reading this, you’re part of the story now. Every stream, every comment, every share — you’re helping me turn the impossible into reality. And trust me, this is just the beginning.

My journey so far has taught me that rejection doesn’t mean defeat. It just means the world isn’t ready yet — but you keep going until it is.

So from Benin to Lagos, and now to the UK — I’m still that same kid chasing the beat in his head and the fire in his heart.

Thank you for walking with me. Stay tuned — the best is yet to come. 💛🎵
